① Potholes in Nameri-kawa

  Holes made to the rock of river bed in the upper reaches of Namerikawa Bridge near Kinzan bus stop are potholes. There are innum-merable holes,therefore, they saythis is a group ofpotholes.Lava flowed intothis area by a big eruption of a volca-noapproximately 110,000 years ago and potholes were made naturally in the river bed after long time. This group of potholes is 4th scale in Kagoshima prefecture. 
 

② Trace of Kago gold mine

Kago gold mine was discovered by Mr. Mutaku Arikawa in 1683 and 58.5 kg of gold was mined from 1704 thru 1711 by
about 300 miners. It was very severe work forminersto dig gold and carry water and stones outside from the pit.
The western refinement method was adopted in this gold mine in 1885 and was able to continue mining intermittently until 1940.

③ Kinzan Post Office in Kago of old time

  It is a real wooden house which was built in Makurazaki first in1904. From the front you can see a stone stair-waya white-painted boarded wall and an entrance door of slid-ingboth sides.

And also you see an arched reception deskpainted in green when you look inside fromthe window. This Post Office is a valuable house with a strong feature of the Meiji. You may feel the dignity of the governmentand modernism of westernization.

④ Hinokami Park(Natural Inheritance)

 The magnificent scene of this Hinokami Park is the most beautiful in Satsuma Peninsula.You can see the Mt. Kaimon so called SatsumaFuji in the east and Kuroshima,Iohjima, Takeshima from right to left in the south offing.
And if you were lucky you coulsee the Yakushima.
Tategami-Rock which rises in the west sea is the landmark of Makurazaki and it is 42 meters in height.
The morning sun rises from the Mt. Kaimon and the setting sun sinks into the Tategami--Rock. It is a beautiful scene and worth
looking. This is the view point where the heart of tourist is healed.
  

⑤ The Observatory for Prayer of Peace (Showa history inheritance)

  Ten vessels of the second fleet including the battleship Yamato were sunk at offshore 200 km of this observatory by the attack of U.S. Forces on April 7,1945.

This second fleet went toward Okinawa to counterattack the US Forces that was going to land at Okinawa. However,
they were attacked by 386 fighters at past the midday in Makurazaki
offing and six ships were sunk in two hours 3,721crews were killed then.
 This observatory remembers many people who had to die
even if they wanted to live.
 An English guide book is avaiable in the morning except on Tuesday.

⑥Akamizu Dairyuu Gongensha (Power Spot)

 When Priest Ganjin came to Japan from China to spread Bu-ddism with an in-vitation of the Em-peror from 749 thru 757, there was a fa-ble that he landed at this Akamizu shore.

In commemoration of it,a small shrine was built in this cave.
This is a secret power spot.
 

⑦Stone fence of feudal government time

  A part of this stone fence was built in the17th century. It is a valuable stone fence whichwas constructed by the real stoneassembling. It is the rare processing that both ends of stone-piling are cut diagonally. It is the structure that the load
is strongly added to a horizontal stone.

 

⑧ Trace of Shirazawa shochu-factory

 This is a shochu factory built in the 1930s, but it was closed in 1979 when the Ei factory with modern facilities was built. The pots in the site were used for brew- ing in those days. Stone building wall and fence with the tinge of red have dignity with the long time history. It is a precious industry inheritance building reminding us of prosperity in those days.
